Katy ISD Names New Chief Information Officer

The Katy ISD Board of Trustees approved the hiring of John Alawneh as the new chief information officer for Katy ISD. As CIO, Alawneh will oversee the district’s technology programs and services to equip campuses with skills that lead to student success.

Alawneh comes to Katy ISD after serving as executive director of information technology/CIO for Austin ISD. Prior to joining Austin ISD in 2010, he served in a number of leadership positions, including executive director of technology operations (CTO) for Plano ISD, and administrative director of information technology and services for the Hospital Corporation of America, North Texas Division in Irving. Having held a variety of leadership positions in the technology field, his experience includes long-term strategic planning, and data management and analytics.

Alawneh holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering, a Master of Science degree in computer engineering, as well as a Doctorate in computer engineering – all from the University of Texas at El Paso. Additionally, Alawneh holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in operation management from New Mexico State University.
