Eleven Katy ISD Students Win Regional Scholastic Writing Awards

Results of the regional Scholastic Writing contest have been announced, with four Katy ISD students winning Gold Key awards and seven winning Silver Key awards. Each of these students, along with their parents, teachers, and principals, were honored at a reception on February 4 at the Harris County Department of Education. Congratulations to the following:

Gold Key Winners:

  • Emma Degraaf, Cinco Ranch JH (Williams, teacher)
  • Julia Aiken, Seven Lakes HS (Frishman, teacher)
  • Kate Samuelson, Seven Lakes HS (Frishman, teacher)

Silver Key Winners:

  • Cameron Bell, Taylor HS (Brunsell, teacher)
  • Samantha Cooley, Morton Ranch HS (Scrogin, teacher)
  • Rachel Bai, Seven Lakes JH (Anderson, teacher)
  • Nina Brown, Seven Lakes JH (Casswel, teacher)
  • Lucy Chen, Seven Lakes JH (Anderson, teacher)
  • Jordan Duda, Seven Lakes JH (Anderson, teacher)
  • Victoria Welkener, Seven Lakes JH (Casswel, teacher)

All Gold Key winners will advance to the national competition in New York City, where they will be competing for $10,000 in scholarships. National winners will be announced in March and will be invited to attend a special ceremony at Carnegie Hall.
