Diane Winborn Elementary was recognized by U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan as a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School based on their overall academic excellence. Winborn was recognized in the category of “Exemplary High Performing” placing them among the state’s highest performing schools.
The National Blue Ribbon Schools award honors public and private elementary, middle, and high schools where students perform at very high levels or where significant improvements are being made in students’ levels of achievement.
“Winborn Elementary is successful because of the commitment to excellence in this school community,” says Principal Kris Mitzner. “Each member of the Winborn staff – past and present – makes a significant difference in the lives of students and this is an accomplishment to recognize & celebrate our students, staff, and community.”
The Education Department will honor approximately 219 public and 50 private schools at a recognition ceremony on November 12-13 in Washington, D.C. In its 30-year history, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has awarded this honor to almost 7,000 of America’s schools.
“This is a direct tribute to many years of hard work and dedication on the part of Winborn staff, students and parents,” Former Principal Kelly Ricks says. “It’s been a pleasure to be a part of this family who consistently and continually pursues excellence.”
