Five years ago Lisa Leethem, principal of Bear Creek Elementary, made a commitment to have SMART Boards in all of her classrooms. Her promise was fulfilled in May when Bear Creek Elementary became the first Katy ISD school to fill 100 percent of its classrooms with SMART Board technology.
While a SMART Board may look like a typical whiteboard at first glance, it is outfitted with touch detection technology that makes lessons interactive. This form of presentation helps students become more engaged in the subject enhancing classroom instruction and participation.
“We have to teach the way our students learn,” says Leethem about the boards. “They’re accustomed to using technology at home, and we don’t want that to stop when they come to school. Technology is a part of our world now, so we have to prepare them for their future.”
